August 2009

Still skeptical about the overlap between food and graffiti? Glance through this gallery. The scouting for food graffiti in August was large-scale (more than 300 photos), and for the most part, suspension-style. There were several heavyweight contenders for the month’s most epic food tag. As always the West Village and Meatpacking District proved uniquely fruitful (a Toastman, Rao’s), but the search also included Williamsburg (Grapes), and a surprising tag outside DiFara, one obviously inspired by the legendary lines.

August focused on seeking food graffiti on the City’s bridges. The Brooklyn Bridge (owned by Brisk), the Queensboro Bridge (unexpectedly barren), and the Williamsburg Bridge (unsurprisingly fertile). Incredible finds included: Arepas, Yucca, Jack Daniels, Skate, Garlic, T-Bone, Miso and a gobsmacking bottle of mayo.
